AMIGOS Volunteers participate in fundraising to cover a portion of the cost of this program. The funds that are raised go to cover the cost of the training program, domestic and international airfare, safety, in-country transportation, project materials, and program project staff in country. The Washington, DC Chapter holds various fundraisers during the year to help Volunteers raise money, including citrus sales (grapefruit and oranges) and a letter writing campaign.
The chapter also raises money from the Washington, DC area from corporate donors and individual contributions.
Fundraising is not directly credited to each Volunteer. Instead, funds are pooled among all the Volunteers. Each Volunteer's fundraising activities are tracked to assure that each is keeping up with this part of the program. An additional amount is required by way of family payments. Need-based scholarships are available to reduce these family payments.
